4x4RNE is the non-profit, volunteer based group dedicated to the task of assisting the Emergency Services and
existing Search and Rescue teams of North East England with the help of our members and their 4x4 vehicles in any weather or on any terrain, 24 hours a day seven days a week.We are dedicated to serving our communities in their time of need and will endeavour to assist all the emergency services when they need the use of 4x4 vehicles anywhere in the North East of England, which includes an area from Haltwhistle to the East Coast and from the Scottish Borders to North Yorkshire. We will help in other areas if we are asked.
4x4RNE have signed a memorandum of understanding with Northern Doctors Urgent Care, based in Gosforth Park, Newcastle, to cover four hospitals and areas if the weather becomes severe this winter with our 4x4 vehicles. These Hospitals are, Berwick, Alnwick, Hexham and Newcastle. In the month of December 2005 when we had the snow storms in the North East,
4x4RNE provided over 264 hours of vehicle and driver assistance to Northern Doctors Urgent Care. Then in March 2006
4x4RNE were again called to assist NDUC and provided over 56 hours of vehicle and driver cover during bad weather.
In addition to the man hours provided, 4x4RNE members were asked to transport Emergency Doctors to 31
separate urgent medical calls and we managed to get the Doctors to every call, most of which would have been impossible using conventional vehicles.
14 4x4RNE members were called out to assist two drivers and one passenger in Blackhall, County Durham who had become stuck on a beach with their vehicles on Thursday 2nd March 2006. Using their knowledge of winches and expertise in off road driving, our members rescued the three males from the beach before the tide took hold of their vehicles. All 3 males safe and well and their vehicles recovered to safe ground.
4x4RNE will also assist the emergency services and other Search and Rescue teams
if 4x4 assistance is needed for evacuations, remote flood watches and the transportation of Doctors, Nurses or Midwives anywhere in the North East where access is difficult or impassable by conventional vehicles.
