This a copy of a press release we issued to all media(a bit flasher than this i just copied the text)

Humber Yorks 4x4 Response Organisation

www.humber-yorks4x4response.org.uk

part of the

National 4x4 Response Network

www.4x4response.net

For immediate release

The Humber Yorks 4x4 Response Organisation have been operating in support of the Emergency Planning Office during the recent flooding across the regions of the Yorkshire and Humberside.

The National 4x4 Response network have placed an addition 40 vehicles on standby for the weekend of 30th June/1st July 2007 because of the flood and weather warning issued by the Environment agency.

What is 4x4 Response

4x4 Response is a national network of volunteer drivers of 4x4 vehicles experienced in off road driving and deep water wading. The 4x4 Response Network is able to provide a specialist support to local authorities, voluntary aid organisations and emergency services in time of emergency or other situations where there is a likelihood of danger or major disruption.

4x4 Response provide experienced drivers and highly capable vehicles for when normal services are stretched or conventional cars and vans are unable to cope with extreme conditions.

We operate a 24/7/365 response to provide 4x4 vehicles with a "go anywhere" capability within the Humberside and Yorkshire region. We are able to help local authorities, voluntary aid organisations and the emergency services within the region.

Recent Flooding.

During the recent flooding the Humber Yorks 4x4 Response Organisation have been working in support of the Emergency Planning Office. We have provided drivers and vehicles in support all council EPO, Humberside and West Yorkshire Police services.

Forward Planning.

The Humber Yorks 4x4 Response Organisation have over dozen vehicles on standby for the coming weekend. The National 4x4 Response network has pledged at least 40 additional vehicles.

These vehicles are available to the Emergency Planning Office, Police & Ambulances services.

Advice to Public

If further flooding occurs people should avoid travelling. If you are unable to travel avoid entering water. Moving flood water is dangerous avoid entering it and find another route. Car and engine management units are easily overcome by water and leave the people stranded in a dangerous situation. Deep and Moving water can quickly overcome even a fit and active person.

I have put the below entry on your site for those entries connected to the Police:

The weekend weather was not as severe as predicted and the Multi Agency Silver Command is likely to close on Monday.

I have had some very positive comments from the Police Officers and Support Staff whom you worked with and assisted in their journeys to and from work.

I would like to thank the club for your commitment during the severe weather and willingness to be on standby. I will ask Dale to arrange a meeting in the coming weeks and look forward to working with you again.

I am sat opposite Supt Carl Sheppard from the Force Command Centres who is grateful for the assistance you gave to his staff.

I have read the many comments on this pages and now it's my turn!!! I am the co-ordinator for the North East of England for 4x4 response, we cover the Cleveland and North Yorkshire area. My/our team DO NOT use this as an excuse to churn up the country side in fact it is quite the opposite. Most of our training is done in off road sites under the guildence of our training officers and when we do go off road/green laning, WE ARE the ones that Do follow the GLASS rules. Infact we have a GLASS rep as one of our members. We do not want to be classed as heros or take over any emergency service we are there soley to support them and help where we can. Most of this is done at our members own expense. At least we do something with them not just take the kids to school and as has been said they do not have as many emmissions as most cars. Please take a good look at yourself before you judge others on what they are trying to do, to HELP YOU THE COMMUNITY. I really hope you are never in need of such help, but if you are and we do help you, will you still be anti 4x4 response as we help save your family from the floods, or bring the Doctor to your door because you can't get out for the weather and they can't get to you in a "standard car". I know that our team and Humber-Yorks are needed in a changing enviroment and I AM PROUD TO BE A PART OF IT. WELL DONE TO ALL THE GUYS AND GIRLS involved in helping with the floods.
Diane Dickinson, North East

Can I please just add to any of the 4x4 Response teams out there that I write press releases for a living - I'm a former journalist and a damn good press release writer. In order to avoid these unfavourable comments in the future should anyone want me to write a release I can and it won't cost you anything  Grin
